The British Institute

The British Institute
The British Institute, known as TBI, was first registered as an English Language Training Provider on 18 February 1984 and since then has provided excellent customer service and strong learning outcomes for its students all over Indonesia. In maintaining and furthering our commitment to the provision of quality training to our clients, TBI ensures that its teachers are constantly upgrading their skills.

TBI’s Academic Support Team regularly conducts internal training for the teachers as a part of their professional development. TBI powered by UTC (UniSadhuGuna Testing Centre) is the only organisation in Indonesia authorised by the Cambridge University Press & Assessment to provide CELTA training course, and this keeps us up to date with the latest developments in teacher training and teaching methodology.

Our Vision

To be the foremost English language institution in Indonesia, fostering global communication and understanding through innovative and impactful language education.

Missions

TBI aims to :
  • Facilitate language learning and professional skills upgrading in Indonesia through the provision of quality language and vocational training courses.
  • Have a positive impact on educational achievement in Indonesia by providing professional development opportunities for language teachers.

TBI’s Teaching Methodology and Instructors

The methodology utilized in TBI classrooms does not subscribe to one particular method. It can be broadly categorised under the umbrella term “Eclectic Approach” which incorporates a variety of teaching approaches to suit students’ needs, such as communicative, situational, task-based, and CLIL. This is an approach in which grammar and other language items are presented in natural situations where there is a realistic exchange of information, ideas and opinions through the use of appropriate tasks, in a student-centered manner. The teacher facilitates the learning process by encouraging and helping students to participate in the learning process as well as providing pertinent feedback on their performance in class.

Consequently, when working on developing the four macro-skills our learners are exposed to interactive approaches to language learning. This is in recognition of the belief that successful users of language employ both top-down and bottom-up language processing strategies. Furthermore, we present integrated language skills lessons where, although the main aim may be the development of a particular skill, other skills feature prominently. Similarly, whilst we do provide explicit treatment of grammar/lexis, this is viewed as a means to a communicative end rather than an end in itself, and practice tasks reflect a primary meaning, rather than form, focus.

TBI Student Assessment

TBI uses a range of Cambridge ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Practice Tests for evaluating student progress. Cambridge English Assessment Tests are aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), which allows international benchmarking of student progress.

TBI will provide your company with an end-of-course report that provides information on course content, course progress, assessment results, overall group performance and individual progress reports.

Our experienced administrative and academic staff will be on hand to deal with any queries or issues that might arise before, during or after any training that TBI provides.
